An Addiction Professional fills an important and unique role among health and human service professionals. They work in a variety of settings, using a combination of strategies and recognizing the need to provide quality services to the public.
APN supports an educational credentialing system; including a registration process based on a combination of experience, education, and training as well as supervised practical experience. The credentialing system identifies the specific functions, responsibilities, knowledge and skill required by counselors who want market their specific specialized skill set. All counselors must already be certified or licensed in their state and meet the requirement of the specific state before applying for APN credentials.
The APN recognizes that addiction professionals are educated in a wide range of disciplines, utilize many different approaches, techniques and bring to the field diverse personal/professional experiences. The credentialing system is designed to recognize professionals for their specific specialty with a wide range of academic preparation or professional training and orientation.
